It’s About Time

by | Oct 28, 2026 | Thinking Out Loud

Didn’t we just spring forward?  How are we already falling back?

In honour of the time change this weekend, let me share some quotes about time.

  1. “Time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time.” – Martha Troly Curtin
  2. “It is the time you have waited for your rose that makes the rose so beautiful.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
  3. “It has been said that time heals all wounds. I do not agree.  The wounds remain.  Time covers them with scars, and the pain lessens.  But it is never gone.” – Rose Kennedy
  4. “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not come.  We have only today.  Let us begin.” – Mother Teresa
  5. “Don’t waste time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.” – Coco Chanel
  6. “They say I’m old-fashioned and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast.” – Dr. Seuss
  7. “Time is a created thing. To say, “I don’t have time” is like saying, “I don’t want to.”” – Lao-Tzu
  8. “When you are measuring your life, you are not living it.” – Mitch Albom
  9. “There are moments when I wish I could roll back the clock and take all the sadness away, but I have a feeling that if I did, the joy would be gone as well.” – Nicholas Sparks
  10. “Do not wait; the time will never be “just right”. Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go.” – Napoleon Hill

Perhaps you have a favourite quote about time. If you do, please share.

My very favourite words about time are in a poem written by J.R. Tolkien.

“I sit beside the fire and think
Of all that I have seen
Of meadow flowers and butterflies
In summers that have been

Of yellow leaves and gossamer
In autumns that there were
With morning mist and silver sun
And wind upon my hair

I sit beside the fire and think
Of how the world will be
When winter comes without a spring
That I shall ever see

For still there are so many things
That I have never seen
In every wood in every spring
There is a different green

I sit beside the fire and think
Of people long ago
And people that will see a world
That I shall never know

But all the while I sit and think
Of times there were before
I listen for returning feet
And voices at the door”
― J.R.R. Tolkien

Remember to fall back on Saturday and enjoy the extra hour of sleep on Sunday!!

I think I picked just about the most beautiful day of the Fall to get my snow tires on.  I felt like a bit of a fraud when I pulled into Hyundai on Tuesday morning to swap out my tires. Not only was there no snow, but there was not even a hint of it in the air. ...
