We all need a little help trying to figure out this thing called life.  Many of us have favourite writers/poets/prophets/musicians that we follow who, in wisdom both simple and profound, inspire us to greater heights, by revealing hidden depths.  I have a few writers whose words I will seek out depending on the situation I find myself in.  One of my favourite authors is called “Anonymous”.  Are you familiar with his or her stuff?  He/she is very prolific and very wise.

Let me share with you a few tidbits of wisdom from this wise soul:

“A good way to judge people is by observing how they treat those who can do them absolutely no good”

“Adversity introduces a person to themselves”

“Life is like a grindstone, whether it grinds you down or polishes you up depends on what you’re made of.”

“God provides the ingredients, but He will not cook the dinner”

“Courtesy is the shortest distance between two people”

“Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved through understanding”

“One who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; one who never asks a question is a fool for life”

“Everyone smiles in the same language”

“While the rest of the world is walking out the door, the ones who matter are the ones who are walking in.”

“Never tell me the sky is the limit, when there are footprints on the moon”.

That is just the tip of a very big iceberg.  Like I said, we all need a little help unravelling the complexity of this journey of life.  Thank you Anonymous, whoever you are, for removing a few of the knots.

Writing A Eulogy

When a family comes to ask me to officiate at their loved one’s funeral, a question I am often asked is, “how long should the eulogy be?”  My answer is, “about 10 to 12 minutes”.  I’ve learned from years of preaching that 12 minutes is the length of the average...

Birthday Thoughts

Today (January 29th) is my birthday.  It is a day that has changed over the years.  As a kid, my birthday was met with great anticipation.  Not only was the day itself a lot of fun, but so was the idea that I was getting older, as with each passing year, more and more...
